Old dodderers

(October 01, 2010)
This strange plant called Dodder has taken up residence under a bird feeder which contained Niger seed.  The Niger seeds germinated this summer and so did the Dodder.  It is a parasitic plant which clings to a host plant (is this where 'old dodderer' comes from?) and sucks the sugars from the the host plant too.  On first seeing the Dodder, I thought we were growing spaghetti.
