Seasonal Diary

5 dry days

(February 22, 2013)

No rain for 5 days means that we can get on the land at last.  Some fertilizer has been applied and some cultivations have been done.  Field drain repairs and  improvements are an ongoing job.  We have recently had the old drainage maps out to try and see what is going on in a field called Peakes Big Hill.  This got us wondering what happened to the old linen maps produced by Shouler & Sons in the 1960's/70's - which were forwarded to MAFF to enable grant aid to be paid.  They were works of art in a way. Here begins the research to try and locate them with Defra.  Probably a hopeless task.
